New Faculty Quickstart Guide: For Your Classes

A guide for new faculty at Whittier College with information about library services and collections.

Library Instruction

Schedule an instruction session for your students to learn essential research skills. Some topics we cover in these sessions include:

  • Basics of college level research
  • Introduction to the databases
  • LINK+ and ILL tutorial
  • How to use the library catalog

We have an instructional lab with over 20 computers so that students can get hands-on practice doing research in our databases. Sessions can be tailored to specific courses and assignments. Schedule an instruction through your subject librarian.

Course Reserves - Provide students access to materials for classes

Students often request books assigned for class. To provide access to books or DVDs, faculty may bring in their own copies or if the library owns a copies, may request that the book be placed on reserve. Students will have access to the book two hours at a time for use in the library.

Fill out the Course Reserves Request form and return to staff at the library to request books or DVDs be placed on reserve.

Research Guides

Your subject librarians have created research guides to help students learn to use library resources including information on how to find journal articles and books. Encourage your students to use research guides to begin their research.

Your subject librarian can also create a tailored guide for your class.

Scanning articles or book chapters

If you have an article or book chapter you would like to share with your class in Moodle, we offer scanning services. Fill out the Scanning Request form and drop it off in the library.
