New Faculty Quickstart Guide: Borrowing Materials

A guide for new faculty at Whittier College with information about library services and collections.

Borrowing Policies

Faculty can check out books and DVDs from Wardman Library's general collection. You also have access to almost any book published in the U.S. through our LINK+ partners or throught Interlibrary Loan (with exceptions for rare, archival, or multimedia materials that libraries usually do not lend).

Please be prepared to show your Whittier College ID to check out materials. Some Wardman Library materials do not circulate. Materials that do NOT leave the library include reference books, special collections materials and periodicals. You can find more information on our policies page.

     Loan Periods    Fines Checkout Limit
Wardman Library Books   1 school year (all materials due at the end of the spring semester)   no daily fines (see below for overdue penalties)   Unlimited
LINK+/ILL Books 3 weeks (1 renewal) $1/day each day overdue Unlimited
DVDs 7 day loan, 1 renewal no fines

Note about Link+/ILL: While we do not fine faculty for overdue books from our collection, we ask that you return Link+ and ILL books on time. Our ability to borrow books from other institutions is dependent upon our ability to return those items on time. Not returning Link+/ILL could prevent us from borrowing materials from other intitutions in the future.

Renewals
Borrowers are responsible for renewing books they have checked out on or before the due date to avoid overdue fines.  Books may be renewed in person or online. If you have trouble with the online renewal function, contact the Circulation Desk for assistance.

Holds
At this time, we do not place holds on materials.
